🌿Benefits of Salah

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:43) وَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَآتُوا الزَّكَاةَ وَارْكَعُوا مَعَ الرَّاكِعِينَ
Wa aqeemus-salaata wa aatuz-zakaata warka‘oo ma‘ar-raaki‘een.
(English): “Establish prayer, give zakah, and bow with those who bow in worship.”

Overview:

Meaning: The Opening

Place of Revelation: Makkah

Number of Ayat: 7

Shane Nuzul / Context: This is the first chapter of the Quran, recited in every unit of prayer (Salah). It serves as a comprehensive introduction to Islam’s core message – praising Allah, seeking guidance, and acknowledging the Day of Judgment.

Arabic	Transliteration	Translation
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ	Bismillahi Ar-Rahmani Ar-Raheem	In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
ٱلْـحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ	Alhamdu lillahi Rabbil 'Aalameen	All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ	Ar-Rahmani Ar-Raheem	The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
مَـٰلِكِ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ	Maliki Yawmid-Deen	Master of the Day of Judgment.
إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ	Iyyaka na'budu wa iyyaka nasta'een	You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help.
ٱهْدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ	Ihdinas-Siratal-Mustaqeem	Guide us to the straight path,
صِرَٰطَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ ٱلْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا ٱلضَّآلِّينَ	Siratal-ladhina an'amta 'alaihim ghayril-maghdoobi 'alaihim wa lad-daaalleen	The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked Your anger or of those who are astray.

Overview:

Meaning: Mankind

Place of Revelation: Makkah

Number of Ayat: 6

Shane Nuzul / Context: This surah is a protection prayer against evil whispers of Satan and jinn. It is one of the Mu’awwidhatayn (two chapters for seeking refuge) alongside Surah Al-Falaq. It emphasizes turning to Allah for protection from spiritual harm.

قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ	Qul a'udhu birabbil-naas	Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,”
مَلِكِ النَّاسِ	Malikin-naas	The King of mankind,
إِلَٰهِ النَّاسِ	Ilaahin-naas	The God of mankind,
مِن شَرِّ ٱلْوَسْوَاسِ ٱلْخَنَّاسِ	Min sharil-waswaasil-khannas	From the evil of the whisperer who withdraws,
ٱلَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ ٱلنَّاسِ	Alladhi yuwaswisu fee sudoorin-naas	Who whispers in the breasts of mankind,
مِنَ ٱلْجِنَّةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ	Minal-jinnati wannaas	Among jinn and mankind.

Overview:

Meaning: The Elephant

Place of Revelation: Makkah

Number of Ayat: 5

Shane Nuzul / Context: This surah describes the event of the People of the Elephant, when Abraha attempted to attack the Kaaba with elephants. Allah protected the Kaaba by sending birds that pelted the army with stones. It’s a story of Allah’s protection over the sacred house.

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصْحَابِ الْفِيلِ	Alam tara kaifa fa‘ala rabbuka bi aṣḥābil fīl	Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with the People of the Elephant?
أَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ كَيْدَهُمْ فِي تَضْلِيلٍ	Alam yaj‘al kaidahum fī taḍlīl	Did He not make their plan go astray?
وَأَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْرًا أَبَابِيلَ	Wa arsala ‘alaihim ṭairan abābīl	And He sent against them flocks of birds,
تَرْمِيهِم بِحِجَارَةٍ مِّن سِجِّيلٍ	Tarmīhim bi ḥijāratin min sijjīl	Striking them with stones of baked clay,
فَجَعَلَهُمْ كَعَصْفٍ مَّأْكُولٍ	Faja‘alahum ka‘aṣfin ma’kūl	And He made them like eaten straw.

Overview:

Meaning: Sincerity / Purity of Faith

Place of Revelation: Makkah

Number of Ayat: 4

Arabic	Transliteration	Translation
قُلْ هُوَ اللّٰهُ أَحَدٌ	Qul huwa Allāhu aḥad	Say, “He is Allah, One.”
اللّٰهُ الصَّمَدُ	Allāhuṣ-ṣamad	Allah, the Eternal Refuge.
لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ	Lam yalid wa lam yūlad	He neither begets nor is born,
وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ	Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan aḥad	Nor is there to Him any equivalent.

Shane Nuzul / Context: Surah Al-Ikhlāṣ was revealed in response to the Quraysh’s questions to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ about the nature of Allah. This surah is a concise yet powerful declaration of Tawheed (Oneness of Allah). It affirms that Allah is unique, eternal, without offspring or origin, and incomparable to anything. The Prophet ﷺ said that reciting this surah is equivalent to reciting one-third of the Qur’an in reward (Sahih al-Bukhari).

A Brief Life Story

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was born in Makkah in 570 CE into the noble Quraysh tribe. From his youth, he was known for his honesty, kindness, and wisdom, earning the title Al-Amin (the Trustworthy). At the age of 40, he received the first revelation from Allah through the Angel Jibreel while meditating in the Cave of Hira, marking the beginning of his mission to call humanity to the worship of one God. Despite facing persecution and hardship, he patiently spread the message of Islam with mercy and perseverance. After years of opposition in Makkah, he and his followers migrated to Madinah, where he built a strong and just community, establishing the foundations of the Islamic way of life. Through both peaceful efforts and firm leadership, the message of Islam spread across Arabia. In 630 CE, he peacefully returned to Makkah, forgiving his former enemies and purifying the Kaaba. Before his passing in 632 CE, he delivered his Farewell Sermon, summarizing the core principles of justice, equality, and faith. His noble character, leadership, and teachings continue to inspire and guide millions around the world to this day.

General Knowledge on Islam

Islam is one of the world’s major religions, revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the 7th century CE in Makkah. The word Islam itself means “submission” or “surrender” to the will of Allah (God). A follower of Islam is called a Muslim, which means “one who submits.”

At the heart of Islam is the belief in the absolute oneness of Allah (Tawheed). Muslims believe that Allah is the Creator, Sustainer, and Lord of everything, and that He sent prophets throughout history — including Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus (peace be upon them all) — to guide humanity. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the final messenger, and the Qur’an is the final divine revelation, preserved exactly as it was revealed.
